For more information regarding the Food Safety Modernization Act and how it relates to animal food, please contact Marissa Herchler. Marissa is the Area Specialized Agent for Food Safety – Animal food, responsible for providing resources to feed mills across the state of North Carolina. Our goal is to collaborate with other Area Specialized Food Safety Agents, county extension personnel, NC State faculty, and other agencies to develop programs to assist North Carolina animal food manufacturers become compliant with the Food Safety Modernization Act rules.

Marissa is a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, as well as a Lead Instructor for the course. The Preventive Controls for Animal Food course, developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA), and approved by the FDA, is offered at North Carolina State University. Future courses will be listed on the NC FSMA website, but if you are interested in attending, please contact Marissa for more details and to be put on the list.
